Welcome from Coach Jonny Bunn

Welcome to my blog, I hope you find it helpful in providing information on coaching all aspects of the game of soccer.

My main aim is to give you lesson plans and structure training sessions so you can get the best out of your players.

My philosophy is that winning is never to be expected, we as coaches and players need to do that little bit extra to reach our full potential. Winning can be a direct result of striving for greatness.

Systems of play 3-5-2

Not all teams have to play the 4-4-2 that has been so widely odopted by many teams. Picking the right formation is the hardest thing a coach will have to do. As a coach you must feel what is the best for the type of players you have in your team.

98 ODP Boys will play a 3-5-2 as we have alot of attacking players in the pool. If all players understand their roles and responsibilities we will be aggressive going forward and solid in defense even with 3 backs.

ISoccer

Assess your soccer skills and track your development.

http://www.isoccer.org/Assessment

How much soccer training is it needed to become a top player? It depends on the efficiency of your training routine… I don’t believe there is such a thing as a ‘born’ soccer player. Perhaps you are born with certain skills and talents, but quite frankly it seems impossible to me that one is actually born to be an ace soccer player [...] Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.

ODP Fitness Training

Extra fitness training will physically and mentally ready you for the ODP season and Inter regional tournament. The Portland Pool will be the best prepared.

You will do two fitness days that will work together with your two club training sessions. I will not be there to oversee players training but I want them to understand the commitment needed to get to the next level of their soccer. It is a commitment to not only the tactical and technical parts of the game but the physical and mental aspects also.

You can do this before or after club practice, get off that xbox, playstation and get out and do something that is going to benefit your soccer.!!!

Please keep records of your extra sessions and get a parent to sign off on them. You can make the training easier or harder by increase/decreasing length of sprints, increasing/decreasing time of activity,  increasing/decreasing number of set or reps.

    Lesson Plan Control

Coaches you can use practice sessions that use passing for this session but focus on how the players are controlling the ball.

Here is my session for tonight

Starting from the right of the picture in twos passing and checking to the ball to control and pass back. Switch after minute of work. Change to using different part of foot to control the ball. Ball then can be thrown in air.

Moving across to next picture. In threes guy in the middle checks to ball control, turn pass to player long at other end of field. Add pressure from a defender who now can pressure from behind, vision needed if pressure can not turn. Change after minute of work.

Top pic. Square control now players on the outside play the ball turn and pass to another player. Ball in air to increase difficulty. Progress to 1v1 control take player on and then pass.

Last picture go 3v3 with 4 goals and touch limit of 3

    Finish 6v6
