Welcome from Coach Jonny Bunn

Welcome to my blog, I hope you find it helpful in providing information on coaching all aspects of the game of soccer.

My main aim is to give you lesson plans and structure training sessions so you can get the best out of your players.

My philosophy is that winning is never to be expected, we as coaches and players need to do that little bit extra to reach our full potential. Winning can be a direct result of striving for greatness.

Southside Soccer Club Player Development Academy Curriculum

Southside Soccer Club Player Development Academy Curriculum
The vision for the Southside Soccer Player Development Academy is a combination of the US Soccer development plan and the KNVB (Holland) 4v4 program. Its main focus is to ensure players are comfortable with the ball at their feet and can gain exposure to all technical soccer specific skills.
All players are in the basic stage of training, the structure of the training sessions will be similar to older players but not the content. Much of the training will focus on technical ability and simple tactical aspects are introduced with the use of small sided games. Players at this age will work towards being dominant at 1v1 situations (teaches individual attacking and defending) and comfortable performing in small spaces with increasing amounts of pressure using 4v4 games (teaches group attacking and defending)

Age Group and Focus
U8
provide basic motor skills that combine ball control and movement with the ball
players start to develop the ability to learn so a good stage to provide technical training of soccer specific skills
1v1 2v1 Attacking and defending situations to start developing individual skills
Use small-sided games to develop basic attacking and defensive principles. Other important aspects of tactical training are possession, combination play, transition and finishing in the final third, as well as zonal defending. Players will rotate in two or three different positions to avoid early specialization.

Player Assessment and evaluation
Player Development program will use ISOCCER to assess and track player development. Players will be given opportunities to train the assessed skills during ball familiarity parts of the practice session, players will also be given homework assignments.
See attached ISOCCER pdf explaining how to implement to your team.
Evaluations will be used to provide feedback to player on there performance over certain periods during the season and will be provided by the head coach.

Style of Play during games
Development teams U8-U10 will play a formation of 2-4-1
Competitive team U11 will play 4-3-3
